The year 2025 was very special for me. As early as February, it was clear that it would bring big changes: my partner Susannah and I were finally going to have a child! The anticipation and our engagement ultimately led me to feel the need to write a song about fatherhood – it's incredible how quickly a song can come together when it's fueled by such positive emotions!

As is often the case, the perfect title immediately springs to mind when I have an idea for a song. I wanted to release it as soon as possible, which meant it had to fit into the "Bushfire Fairytales" concept. All the songs are imbued with the campfire atmosphere of the South African bush and set to music the wonderful stories and folklore I learned during my safari guide training. Since the bushbabies, a small primate species (also called galagos), were also listening in the trees above, "The Bushbaby" seemed like a very fitting song title.

In my last blog post about the Aldora Britain Records interview, I mentioned that my second trip to South Africa revitalized my creativity, leaving me with so many ideas that I'd love to be working everywhere at once. The "Bushfire Fairytales" were originally intended to shorten the wait for my long-awaited "Conservation-CD" and were essentially just simple, yet very intimate singer-songwriter versions of old and new songs with a few percussion touches. Unfortunately, my perfectionism got the better of me again, and I gradually added more and more elements: first a little kalimba melody here, then a few drums there – I'm currently working on harmonies for a choir…

Now it's clear that the "Bushfire Fairytales" will be released in two parts, each with five songs, and only three previously released tracks actually made it onto the album in a singer-songwriter version. There was simply too much new material to share! Through the writing process and the expansion of the songs with various instruments, it became clear to me that I couldn't be satisfied with my original idea of a self-produced singer-songwriter album. I want to release the 10 songs I wrote with so much dedication and joy as a big production and not make the same mistake as with my debut EP. Even if this means the release will be delayed a bit, as I want to have "Bushfire Fairytales" produced by a professional recording studio. I don't want to reveal any of the plans or surprises in store just yet. To tide you over, I'll be releasing a short teaser video for the song "The Bushbaby" every week, focusing on one of the instruments.

Finally, I'm proud to announce that my daughter, Nora Nyara Klaas, was born on October 8, 2025! Susannah and I are still overjoyed and are slowly getting used to our new roles as parents. The nickname "Bushbaby" suits our Nony perfectly. She has lots of energy, is strong-willed, and loves music - I didn't have to change a single line of the song, even though the feeling of actually being a dad has exceeded all my expectations!

Das Jahr 2025 war ein sehr besonderes für mich. Bereits im Februar war klar, dass es große Veränderungen mit sich bringen würde: Der große Kinderwunsch meiner Partnerin Susannah und mir sollte in Erfüllung gehen! Die Vorfreude und unsere Verlobung sorgten schließlich dafür, dass ich das Bedürfnis empfand, einen Song über das Vatersein zu schreiben – unglaublich, wie schnell manchmal ein Song geschrieben ist, wenn er von so positiven Gefühlen getragen wird!

Wie so oft habe ich mit der Idee eines Songs auch gleich den passenden Titel im Kopf. Ich wollte ihn schnellstmöglich veröffentlichen, womit klar war, dass er in das Konzept der „Bushfire Fairytales“ passen muss. Alle Songs sind von der Lagerfeueratmosphäre im südafrikanischen Busch geprägt und vertonen die wunderbaren Geschichten und Folklore, die ich während meiner Safari-Guide-Ausbildung kennenlernen durfte. Da uns dabei auch die Bushbabys, eine kleine Primatenart (auch Galago genannt), in den Bäumen über uns zuhörten, erschien mir „The Bushbaby“ als Songtitel sehr passend.

Bereits im letzten Blog zum Aldora Britain Records Interview hatte ich erwähnt, dass meine zweite Südafrika-Reise meine Kreativität zu alter Stärke zurückgeführt hat und ich so viele Ideen im Kopf habe, dass ich am liebsten überall gleichzeitig arbeiten würde. Die „Bushfire Fairytales“ sollten ursprünglich die Wartezeit auf meine lang angekündigte "Conservation-CD" verkürzen und im Grunde nur einfach gehaltene, aber dafür sehr intime Singer-Songwriter-Versionen von alten und neuen Songs mit wenigen Percussion-Akzenten beinhalten. Leider hat auch hier mal wieder mein Perfektionismus zugeschlagen und ich habe nach und nach immer weitere Elemente hinzugefügt: Erst eine kleine Kalimba-Melodie hier, dann ein paar Trommeln da – momentan schreibe ich noch an Harmonien für einen Chor…

Nun ist klar, dass die „Bushfire Fairytales“ in zwei Teilen mit je 5 Songs veröffentlicht werden und tatsächlich nur 3 bereits veröffentlichte Songs ihren Platz in einer Singer-Songwriter-Version darauf gefunden haben. Es gab einfach zu viel Neues zu erzählen! Mit dem Schreibprozess und der Erweiterung der Songs durch diverse Instrumente wurde mir ebenso klar, dass ich mich auch diesbezüglich mit meiner ursprünglichen Idee eines selbstproduzierten Singer-Songwriter-Albums nicht zufriedengeben kann. Ich möchte die 10 Songs, welche ich mit so viel Hingabe und Freude geschrieben habe, in einem großen Gewand veröffentlichen und nicht den gleichen Fehler machen wie mit meiner Debüt-EP. Auch wenn dies bedeutet, dass die Veröffentlichung noch etwas auf sich warten lässt, da ich die „Bushfire Fairytales“ von einem professionellen Tonstudio produzieren lassen möchte. Welche Pläne und Überraschungen es diesbezüglich gibt, möchte ich an dieser Stelle noch nicht verraten. Um euch auch dieses Mal etwas zu vertrösten, werde ich von nun an jede Woche ein kleines Teaser-Video zum Song „The Bushbaby“ veröffentlichen, in dem eines der Instrumente im Fokus steht.

Zum Abschluss möchte ich noch stolz verkünden, dass am 08. Oktober 2025 meine Tochter Nora Nyara Klaas das Licht der Welt erblickt hat! Susannah und ich sind nach wie vor überglücklich und haben uns so langsam an unsere neuen Aufgaben als Eltern gewöhnt. Auch der Spitzname „Bushbaby“ passt perfekt zu unserer Nony. Sie hat viel Energie, ist willensstark und liebt Musik - ich musste keine Textzeile des Songs verändern, auch wenn das Gefühl, wirklich Papa zu sein, all meine Erwartungen übertroffen hat!
